Pregnancy Diary Week 30: Why do 3D ultrasounds look so weird

/

It feels like forever since my last ultrasound! We had a growth ultrasound this week to make sure everything was growing properly. I think we get this extra one because I was in a country with Zika early in the pregnancy, so they have to keep closer tabs that the baby’s head is growing normally. So far, so good! The ultrasound technician gave us one of those 3D pictures of the baby, and I have to say it looks kind of … drippy. Like a melted baby. I really hope it doesn’t come out like that! But I guess it’s a big improvement over the gremlin we saw in our Week 16 ultrasound hehehe.

I had a teeth cleaning this week, too. My dentist office (Tribeca Dental Design) is the absolute best – they’re always so gentle and efficient with the cleaning! But, when you’re pregnant, there’s a whole bunch of extra blood pumping through your body which meant it was absolute carnage in my gums – blood everywhere! I felt bad for the poor woman cleaning my teeth. 😀

This week I went to the Bronx Zoo and New York Botanical Garden with my sister. It’s an hour and fifteen minutes away on the subway. I figured I should take advantage of these last few weeks of feeling good before I get really big and can’t do anything in the heat. The Bronx Zoo was, well, a zoo because we went on Wednesday and apparently entry is free on Wednesdays. We got there as soon as it opened though and made a beeline straight to the petting zoo, which was a good call. We got to feed llamas without any crowds, which was definitely the highlight of our visit. If you’re planning on visiting, make sure you bring lots of quarters with you so you can get food out of the vending machine to feed the animals. While it wasn’t too hot when we went (high 70’s), there was plenty of shade so I think visiting the zoo might still be comfortable in hotter weather even if you’re pregnant.

The New York Botanical Garden was actually pretty underwhelming – there was a lot of green but almost no flowers. I think the best time to visit is in April, not in June. 😀 We got really lucky though – we saw the corpse flower bloom during our visit. This is a flower that blooms for 24-48 hours every 7-10 years – crazy! And it smells like dead bodies, apparently, but we didn’t get close enough to get a whiff.

In fancy pants news, my sister and I went to a swanky event hosted by St. Germain at the Battery in Battery Park. Sometimes, my friends invite me to chic events I have no business being at, and this was one of them! I’m sure people were really confused to see the pregnant woman at the alcohol launch. 😀 Who says preggos can’t have fun?!
