Bye bye, Equinox – I finally put my Equinox membership on hold because I feel too big and out of breath to workout now! To be honest, in the last week I was only taking advantage of my Equinox membership to be able to access clean bathrooms no matter where I was in the city – using my gym membership for actual workouts has really come to a halt now. It wasn’t like I gradually started to feel worse, either – it was like one day last week, my husband mentioned to me, “Wow, you look visibly larger today than you did yesterday” and then BAM all the third trimester symptoms of lower back pain, tiredness, short breath, hip pain, etc. hit me all at once. One day I was fine, the next day I was aggressively pregnant! 😀
This week I had my #notababyshower summer rooftop BBQ. It was basically just a normal party with the option to buy something off my registry instead of bringing wine that I can’t drink. 😀 I didn’t want to do a traditional baby shower where it’s just a bunch of women (ugh, traditional gender roles, amirite) doing baby things. I wanted an adult party … you know, so I could hang out with my adult friends (of both genders) and enjoy adult conversation before a baby takes over my life.
Even though I’m 34, probably 80% of my friends are still single and without children – I imagine that’s pretty typical for NYC. So the idea of doing a traditional baby shower and subjecting my fab friends to dumb baby-themed games makes me want to die. Anyway, the #notababyshower party was lots of fun – we had a DIY flower crown bar and loads of food and rose. My in-laws and my parents were both in attendance, as were friends from all over the place – my bestie from high school even flew out from CA just to hang with me. And, my gays got me the BEST CAKE EVER to which someone asked if it was a gender reveal cake … um, first of all gender reveal parties are for ridiculous human beings and I would never do one, and second of all, what gender do you think this rainbow explosion cake represents?! 😀 The only bad thing was the weather – it was 100 degrees and way too hot for a rooftop party so we had to move the whole thing indoors until the sun set!
